Loose Knit Stitch

Remember my St. Brigid swatch from a few days ago?

stbStart

The astute observer may have noticed that my single knit stitches are wonky. I don't know what to do to fix it. I've tried making sure I tighten the yarn when I switch from P to K and then back to P. Isn't really working. I've tried wrapping the yarn in the other direction and untwisting it on the WS row. Also didn't do the trick.

What else can I do? I'm really annoyed with the way it looks and for some reason I just can't seem to get it right! Grrrrr.....

I try to knit those stitches extra tightly, but even so, they typically come out kind of "wonky." To fix this, I gently tug on the purl stitches from the reverse side and pull through the slack yarn. This will make the purl stitches looser, but since they're sunken into the fabric (rather than "popping" out like the knit stitches), that doesn't show up as much...

After you wash and block it I'll bet all the stitches will relax into place and won't look wonky at all.

I have the same problem, and it seems like the tighter I pull the purls, the wonkier the knits become! So I've decided just to let it go, and am hoping that the washing/blocking will take care of it.

Your Phildar hoodie looks awesome, by the way!!

It'll be fine after you wash it. It's because knit stitches are bigger on the front than purl stitches (that's why stockinette stitch curls to the purl side along the edges) - try pulling the purl stitches really tight as you work them.
